MERE
MASS
“Mere Mass” raises questions about our place in the group, about the individual within the greater number. Clothes represent this conformism and uniformity, often comfortable and protective. And yet, despite the shield and shelter that the group may embody, a form of violence still resides in the alienation of the Self. Our aim is to explore the staring, devouring, robbing nature of the mass. We want to show how the mass can make us lose our individuality in the service or detriment of something greater than ourselves, something inescapable, something incomprehensible. We talk about how easy it is to lose face, yet how possible it is to break free. A freedom that is surely illusory, for we cannot live entirely outside others, outside the world.
